Type of Cold Room: Bespoke Arched Chiller and Meat Chiller
An arched basement and limited headroom called for cold storage shaped around the building. Two bespoke chillers bring insulated rooms, refrigeration, shelving and lighting together in one coordinated package.
Specifications
- Project Type: Two bespoke chillers: a main arched chiller and a separate meat chiller.
- Panels: 80mm PIR insulated panels, with a profiled ceiling manufactured to suit the arched basement.
- Shelving: Shelving of different depths and heights in the arched room, providing storage beneath the lower sections while retaining a central access route; freestanding wire shelving in the meat chiller.
- Doors & Lighting: Insulated hinged doors with internal safety releases, PVC strip curtains and LED lighting controlled by PIR sensors.
- Refrigeration: Intarcon remote systems with low-noise, weatherproof condensing units at roof level. Pipe routes of approximately 43m and 33m, each including a 7m vertical rise between basement and roof.
- Storage Duty: +1°C to +4°C for pre-chilled goods, with evaporator arrangements selected for the individual rooms.
Client Requirement
The main chiller needed to fit an arched basement area, where the ceiling profile and available height influenced the room layout. The project also included a separate meat chiller, with refrigeration equipment located remotely at roof level. For a hospitality operator, these details matter: the room needs to fit the premises while providing accessible storage for the kitchen team.
Our Solution
We manufactured the arched chiller using 80mm PIR insulated panels with a profiled ceiling to suit the space. Shelving of different depths and heights was incorporated into the layout. Alongside it, the separate meat chiller provided a dedicated storage room with freestanding wire shelving. Each chiller was connected to a low-noise, weatherproof condensing unit at roof level. The arched room demonstrates how bespoke manufacturing can accommodate an unusual ceiling profile: for buyers planning cold storage in a constrained building, it is a practical example of designing the room, shelving and refrigeration around the available space.
