Working with a long-standing customer of over 30 years, Scandia delivered a value-engineered, multi-compartment cold storage suite for a new processing warehouse in Thurrock, completing the entire project from order to installation in just 16 days.

A large-scale, L-shaped 4-compartment suite featuring both freezer and chiller rooms, designed with value engineering in mind to maximise storage within a strict budget.

Insulation & Finish: 100mm PIR throughout with a white food-safe PVC laminate finish.
Doors: 3 x 1000mm x 2000mm and 1 x 1500mm x 2000mm clear opening (c/o) anodised aluminium capped semi-rebate doors equipped with full Fermod door furniture.
Flooring: Freezer compartment features an insulated aluminium, heated, anti-slip floor designed for heavy pallet use.
Shelving: 4-tier static free-standing wire shelving to the full freezer surround.
Client Requirement
One of our customers of over 30 years had a client with a specific requirement for a 4-compartment suite to serve the large production area of a new processing warehouse. The budget was tight, but the client needed as much storage space as possible.
Our Solution
Scandia stayed on the sideline, assisting with technical details and solutions for value engineering. By dropping the room height to only a usable height for shelving, we significantly reduced both refrigeration and total cold room costs. Furthermore, due to the warehouse’s layout, we were able to suggest hinged doors to save on the higher costs associated with sliding doors. By creating a large L-shape design for the suite, forklifts in the warehouse were able to manoeuvre easily around the rooms, ensuring the entire footprint of the warehouse was filled with useful space.
When key site handovers were delayed, and tensions surrounding the build start date began to rise, our customer and Scandia were able to turn around the order receipt, manufacture, and installation completion within a remarkable 16-day period.
