The requirements
One of London’s busiest chicken distribution factories has been continuously growing over the years and required a refurbishment of their chilled despatch area, involving a 14m x 4.1m x 3.3m high extension, a large despatch door, panel protection needing replacement, and some other doors in need of refurbishment and replacement. The main emphasis on the project was minimum disruption and as much separation as possible between each temperature controlled area.
Our solution
Scandia attended site on various occasions to discuss and see the full extent of the new chilled area and replacements needed as well as planning the installation. The surrounding rooms were temperature controlled, however for separation purposes the areas needed to be closed off with several doors, two of which needed replacing, one of which needed refurbishment.
We removed a 1500mm opening sliding door, cut the opening further and fitted a new 2100mm opening sliding door with a wide vision panel for despatch staff to signal to packing staff.
We removed their main sliding door, cut open even further and higher then fitted a new sliding door with a wicket-style hinged door for ease of access in and out without needing to open the full door. This door was also fitted with a vision panel so despatch staff could communicate with prep staff.
The front of the newly built despatch area was then fitted with an insulated electronic roller shutter for speed and ease of despatch.
All doors and panels were protected by aluminium chequerplate and steel angles and goalposts.
